Layer

A layer represents a set of captured items. Each capture creates a new layer¹ in the archive.

A layer contains only the items that changed, and only the changes made to those items. When items are captured for the first time, they are captured in their entirety. When items are recaptured, only the information that changed is captured in the new layer.

See understanding layers.

¹ If there is nothing new to capture, no new layer is created; a layer is never empty.
