What's New in QRecall 3.0

QRecall 3.0 is a major technological update, with new features that extend your archives into the cloud.

Stacks in the Cloud

The new stacks feature allows you to efficiently store and maintain a remote copy of an archive. Stacks can be incrementally updated as the archive changes, giving you the safety of a compact remote copy of your data, with quick and efficient updates.

Excluded Items

QRecall now remembers which items were excluded during a capture that can be reviewed in the browser.

When restoring folders, existing items that were excluded are now preserved, instead of being erased

APFS Support

APFS is now fully supported. QRecall can now capture and restore sparse files.

Archives stored on an APFS volume take advantage of cloning so that actions that modify the archive are safer and run faster.

S.M.A.R.T. Check

Storage devices that report their S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) status will be checked for problem before the start of every action.

Compact record lists, record sets, and more

Record lists (used to record the data in a file) and record sets (used to record the files in a folder, and the folders in a layer) have all been extensively reengineered to be smaller and faster.

These, and other changes, improve the performance of a host of tasks that QRecall must perform. For example, the "locating unused space" task during the compact action used to take minutes to finish. It can now be completed in a second or two.

The first time QRecall 3 modifies an archive, it will convert all of the file and folder records to the new format. Once this occurs, the archive can no longer be used with any earlier version.

Uninstall Script

Should you ever need to uninstall QRecall, the application bundle now includes a shell script that can be executed from the command line, greatly simplifing this task in emergencies.
